Product Recalls for September 2019

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued the following product recalls:

➢ WHIRLPOOL GLASS COOKTOPS WITH TOUCH CONTROLS

Hazard: The recalled cooktop surface elements can turn on by themselves, posing burn and fire hazards. Whirlpool Corporation has received 133 reports of incidents involving the cooktop surface elements turning on by themselves. Additionally, there have been reports of heat damage to nearby items and four reports of items catching on fire. Two minor burn injuries have also been reported.

Description: The recall includes cooktops with a glass cooking surface, touch controls, radiant, and downdraft radiant models sold under the Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and JennAir brand names between December 2016 through July 2019.

Remedy: Product replacement. Consumers should immediately contact Whirlpool to arrange for a free installation of a replacement cooktop. When not in use, turn the unit off at the circuit breaker. Do not leave flammable materials or empty cookware on or near the cooktop. ➢ DECATHLON USA ROCKY SCREWGATE CARBINERS

Hazard: Serious risk of death. Incorrect assembly can cause the carbiner to unlock while in use, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the user. Decathlon USA has not received any reports of injuries to date.

Description: The recall involves Rocky Screwgate aluminum and pear shaped carbiners with a small gate and screwgate. They were sold under the SIMOND brand in yellow (item #1760147) and blue (item #1759997). The brand name is engraved on the side of the product. The item number was printed on the cardboard that was attached to the product. Carbiners are typically used by climbers as connectors or as extenders to anchor a climber.

Remedy: Full refund. ➢ KICHLER LIGHTING (FAST TRACK RECALL)

Hazard: The light sockets can overheat, melt, or catch fire, posing a fire hazard. Kichler has received 84 consumer reports of burnt fixtures, wires or sockets, including three reports of fixture fires. No property damage or injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Elan Shayla Mini Pendant Lights Models 83162, 83163, and 83164. They are chrome multi-light modern/contemporary clear glass pendant lights with one, three, or nine pendant lights. The recalled chrome and clear glass multi-light fixtures can each have their model numbers and date codes printed on stickers located on the inside of the ceiling canopy and on the product packaging. The product date codes are comprised of a 2-digit month and 2-digit year, for example 0513 (May 2013) through 0514 (May 2014).

Remedy: Replacement. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lighting fixtures and contact the store where they were purchased or Kichler directly. ➢ HAPPY PLUGS BLUETOOTH WIRELESS II HEADPHONES (Fast Track Recall)

Hazard: The micro-USB charging cable packaged with Happy Plugs wireless headphones can cause the headphones to overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers. One incident of overheating while plugged into the micro-USB charging cables has been reported.

Description: This recall involves Bluetooth headphones sold with an external micro-USB charging cable. The micro-USB charging cable is a black cable about 20 inches in length with a USB 2.0 port on one end and a micro-USB port on the other. The UPC is printed on the back of the product packaging in the lower right corner and the item number is printed on the bottom of the product packaging.

Remedy: Free replacement headphones and charging cable. The recalled headphones can be returned to the original place of purchase or returned to Happy Plugs. ➢ LOSARTAN POTASSIUM AND EZETIMIBE PRESCRIPTION DRUG BOTTLES

Hazard: Fails to meet child-resistant closure requirements. The prescription package is not child-resistant as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, posing a poisoning risk if swallowed by children. Approximately 636,000 bottles have been sold but no injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves bottles of prescription medications Losartan Potassium and Ezetimibe from Sandoz with certain lot numbers found on their website. The recalled bottles have “Sandoz,” the name of the medication, dosage, and NDC on the front of the bottle labels and the lot number and expiration date on the side of the bottle labels. The bottles have been sold at pharmacies and clinics nationwide as a prescribed medicine from July 2018 through August 2019.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately secure the medications to keep them out of the sight and reach of children and contact Sandoz for a free replacement child resistant bottle cap. ➢ KIRKLAND’S CHESTS OF DRAWERS

Hazard: The recalled chests are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children. The dressers do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves two chests of drawers made from MDF wood. One is mirrored with five drawers and has a black wash finish. It measures 35 inches tall and weighs about 47 pounds. The chest SKU number is 177373. The SKU number can be found on the Kirkland’s price label that is attached to the back of the furniture hanging. The Camille chest has six-drawers and a cream distressed finish. The chest measures 36 inches tall and weighs about 75 pounds. The chest SKU number is 145191. The SKU number can be found on the Kirkland’s price label that is attached to the back of the furniture hang tag. These items were sold at Kirkland’s from January 2016 through May 2019.

Remedy: Refund or repair. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chests and place them in a room away from children. Consumers can return the chests to a Kirkland’s store and receive a refund or contact Kirkland’s toll-free at 877-541-4855 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by email at customer.care@kirklands.com. ➢ HOME MERIDIAN THREE-DRAWER CHESTS

Hazard: The recalled chests are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children. The chests do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Mid-Century three-drawer accent chests in a brown finish (model DS- D146-002) or white finish (model DS-D146-005). The model number can be found on a label on the back of the recalled chests. The chests have three drawers with six copper-colored drawer pulls. The chests measure 32 inches high, 32 inches wide, 16 inches deep, and weigh 75 pounds. The chests were sold in furniture stores in Nebraska, Kansas and Texas, and online at wayfair.com, amazon.com, bedbathandbeyond.com, and other online retailers from March 2017 through June 2019.

Remedy: Repair or refund. Consumers should immediately stop using any recalled chest that is not properly anchored to the wall and place it in an area that children cannot access. Contact Home Meridian to receive a free tip-over restraint kit mailed to the home or a prepaid shipping label to mail in the drawer slides for a full refund. ➢ RITE AID FOLDING PATIO CHAIRS

Hazard: The chair frame can bend and causes the user to fall, posing a risk of injury. The company has received four reports of chairs bending unexpectedly, including one report of a minor bruise and one laceration injury.

Description: This recall involves two folding, metal framed patio chairs with padded seats. The chairs were sold in tan and gray. The chairs measure about 24 inches long by 22 inches wide by 37 inches high. UPC numbers can be found on the chair packaging. The chairs were sold nationwide from February 2019 through June 2019.

Remedy: Refund. Contact RiteAid at 800-748-3243 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, or online at www.riteaid.com. Click on “Product Recalls” at the bottom of the page under Customer Care for more information.
